ADVANTAGES OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Communication
From hand-held computers to touch phones, technological advancements in the field of communication are endless. The means and the modes of communication are unlimited. Some of the benefits of technological advancements in the field of communication are:

Technology has evolved and transformed our lives and society. Overall, it has brought about tremendous growth and benefit to mankind.
DISADVANTAGES OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Pollution
One of the biggest concerns about modern technology today is pollution. Vehicles and major manufacturing plants are releasing ever-increasing amounts of carbon dioxide, and that may greatly contribute to global warming.
Fewer Jobs
As computing technology and robotic mechanisms become increasingly advanced, fewer jobs are available due to the fact that machines can perform a task more efficiently at a quicker pace.
Social Isolation
Modern technology has made it possible to connect more frequently, email and text messaging do not lend themselves to intimate revelations or in-depth conversations. These are things that may be necessary to combat loneliness and isolation.
Competency
With spell check and automatic technology, simple knowledge and calculations are done for most people. While this does save time and effort, it causes many individuals to become dependent on technology, which can be problematic in situations without modern advancement.
Behavioral Problems
Because of the amount of time children spend watching television, views and behaviors are affected. One example is evidenced in a study by researchers at the University of Michigan that spanned 15 years. It found a link between childhood television viewing and adult violent behavior. Other studies found links between TV viewing and smoking, drinking and risky sexual behavior.
Let us not forget that anything that is out of control or in excess is always bad.

Technology, Time and Being

In America at least, we are still in the ‘new toy’ phase of high technology. Every new gadget that comes out receives oohs and aahs in the media, with the subtext, ‘aren’t we the most amazing people for inventing all these wonderful things!’Multi-tasking can be defined as making a virtue out of doing three or four things at the same time without paying attention to any of them. The very machines that are supposed to free people from slavery to busyness are driving them to mindlessness. We need a basic reorientation in the relationship to our machines.For any mature adult, high technology is, by itself, quite boring. Disconnected from the deeper aspects of life, technology for technology’s sake is like talking just to talkan empty enterprise. The

 interesting question has to do with how we integrate the emerging technologies into our lives.Underlying that issue is the age-old question of what it means to be a human being. Ironically, as technology sweeps everything before it, its rampant development is pushing essential questions to the fore, driving ordinary
thinking and feeling people to explore questions that were once only the realm of philosophers.In the hopefully not-so-distant future, when people have dropped the ‘gee-whiz’ attitude toward new technologies, there will be a seamless integration with machines in our daily lives. Can that be achieved without losing the distinction between technology and life, and allowing the domination of our lives by machines?Incredibly fast, powerful, and small computers should free people from the illusory importance of busyness and the illusory competence of multi-tasking. Rather than spur an increasing frenzy of activity, as they are now doing, machines could assist in the rightful balance between activity and inactivity, and allow time for being and non-action, which are always first.Of course that means deeply reexamining time, at once the most valuable thing we have, and the greatest impediment to our realization as human beings.Busyness is no substitute for being; indeed, the perpetually busy are wasting their lives. To a large extent, the more one does, the less one lives, and is. But why are so many people, who have the time, space, and leisure to put what is first first, refusing to do so?Psychological time prevents us from meeting things fully. I’ve never lived by the notion, “every day a tiny bit. It’s slow process We grow unseen, through negation most of all, but never through time.Employing time the whole idea of gradualness is procrastination and decay. I’m not entirely liberated from time, but I’m sure that one never changes gradually. Evolution doesn’t even work that way, through gradual change, though the word has come to mean exactly that a slow process, bit by bit, gradually in time. That means never.Of course, the intelligent use of time does not, in itself, awaken the timeless, and with it wholeness, peace and understanding. After all, many monks have wasted their lives following rituals and pursuing methods of meditation. For timelessness to come into being in one’s being, one has to take the time to learn how to observe and question within oneself, and do the spadework of self-knowing on a daily basis.Hopefully, the childish fascination and fetish with high-tech toys is just a phase of human development. With a new relationship to machines, the development of the human being could be served, rather than diminished by them.There can be a harmonious integration with our machines, which

certainly doesn’t mean becoming cyborgs or unduly dependent on them. Such integration would allow time for the truly important things, like being in nature, spending time with one’s children, family, and friends, inquiring with others, and solitarily exploring the infinite universe within.Science is based on the testable premise that everything in nature is explainable in terms of physical mechanisms made of purely material substance. But even if that principle holds true, as it no doubt will, for every phenomenon that humans encounter in the universe, it does not mean we will ever come to understand everything. There is no bottom to the cosmos, just an infinite regress of mysteries waiting for science to discover and comprehend.There has always been a symbiosis between science and technology, but now these two driving forces of the human prospect are nearly synonymous. A third force has become interwoven with them–the market.Technology, which is increasingly linked to and derived from science and the market, neither uncovers mysteries, nor evokes feelings of mystery. Technology is application, and it is only as beneficial to human life as we are intelligent in using and integrating it into lives lived beyond its domain.

China sends jets into air zone as Japan South Korea defy it

 

China sent fighter jets and an early warning aircraft into its newly declared air defence zone state media said Friday as Japan and South Korea stated they had defied the zone with military overflights.

The Chinese planes had conducted normal air patrols on Thursday as a defensive measure and in line with international common practices said Shen Jinke spokesman for the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force according to state news agency Xinhua.
Shen said China's air force would remain on high alert and take measures to protect the security of the country's airspace Xinhua reported.
Japan and South Korea said Thursday they had defied the air defence identification zone (ADIZ) declared by Beijing last weekend showing a united front after US B-52 bombers did the same.
Chinese authorities are coming under domestic pressure to toughen their response to incursions into the zone that includes disputed islands claimed by China which knows them as the Diaoyus but controlled by Japan which calls them the Senkakus.
The move triggered US and Japanese accusations of provocation as global concerns grew.
China's ADIZ requires aircraft to provide their flight plan declare their nationality and maintain two-way radio communication or face defensive emergency measures.
But Tokyo said its coastguard and air force had flown unopposed in the zone without complying with Beijing's rules.We have been operating normal warning and patrol activities in the East China Sea including that area said Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga.We have no intention of changing this.

South Korea's military said it encountered no resistance when one of its planes entered the area which also overlaps Seoul's ADIZ unannounced on Tuesday.
A day earlier two giant US Stratofortress bombers flew into the zone an unmistakable message from Washington before a pre-planned visit to the region by Vice President Joe Biden.

China's defence ministry issued a statement 11 hours after the US announcement saying its military monitored the entire process of the B-52 flights without expressing regret or anger or threatening direct action.
The Global Times, which is close to China's ruling Communist Party and often takes a nationalist tone criticised the reaction as too slow in an editorial Thursday.
We failed in offering a timely and ideal response it said, adding that Chinese officials needed to react to psychological battles by the US.
Asked about the South Korean flight, China's foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang said: China identifies any aircraft within the ADIZ and must have noted the relevant situation you have mentioned.
He reiterated criticism of US and Japanese responses to the zone urging both countries to immediately correct their mistakes and stop their irresponsible accusations against China.
The Communist Party seeks to drum up popular support by tapping into deep-seated resentment of Japan for its brutal invasion of China in the 1930s.
Nationalist passions easily aroused
Such nationalist passions are easily aroused, and Chinese social media users called for Beijing to retaliate against Washington.
Senior administration officials in Washington said Wednesday that Biden will raise Washington's concerns about the zone while in Beijing.
China's relations with South Korea have recently improved but the zone covers a disputed South Korean-controlled rock that has long been a source of tensions between them.
South Korea's Vice Defence Minister Baek Seung-Joo expressed strong regret at China's ADIZ announcement which he said was "heightening military tension in the region.
Australia on Thursday refused to back down from criticism of the air zone after summoning China's ambassador earlier this week and prompting an angry response from Beijing.
The Philippines voiced concern that China may extend control of air space over disputed areas of the South China Sea where the two nations have a separate territorial dispute.
Japanese passenger airlines said after government pressure they will not obey Beijing's rules while the State Department has taken an ambiguous position saying it was advising US carriers to take all steps they consider necessary to operate safely in the region.
Thai Airways said Thursday it will comply with Beijing's directive.
China for its part has accused the US and Japan which both have ADIZs of double standards saying the real provocateur is Tokyo.
Defence ministry spokesman Yang Yujun said in a statement Thursday that Japan established its ADIZ in 1969 so Tokyo had no right to make irresponsible remarks about China's.If there are to be demands for a withdrawal then we invite the Japanese side to first withdraw its air defence identification zone and China may reconsider after 44 years he said.
The islands dispute lay dormant for decades but flared in September 2012 when Tokyo purchased three of the uninhabited outcrops from private owners.
Beijing accused Tokyo of changing the status quo and has since sent surveillance ships and aircraft to the area prompting Japan to scramble fighter jets 386 times in the 12 months to September.
The manoeuvres have raised fears of an accidental clash.
